After a brief chat with Claudio Pizarro, Father Christmas set off again – because he and his colleagues at MAN still have a lot to do: MAN board members and employees will be driving the Christmas truck full of gifts to kindergartens, schools and social institutions, as well as to the MAN sites in Munich, Nuremberg, Salzgitter and Wittlich, until the end of December. The MAN eTGX with six battery packs and a range of up to 570 kilometres is hard to miss: ten trainees from the Munich plant have lovingly decorated it over a period of six weeks. Around 150 metres of LED fairy lights, golden accents and a shining MAN logo make it a very special kind of "electric sleigh".
For two decades, the MAN Christmas truck has been bringing joy to children – and for its 20th anniversary, it is now fully electric. Not only that, but at its premiere, the eTGX also carried the first two charging stations for FC Bayern Munich's commercial vehicle charging park at the Allianz Arena.
Santa Claus now drives a MAN eTGX – combining the charme of the Advent season with a clear statement about the future. True to the motto "Oh, come, eTrucks and eBuses", he delivered an electrifying cargo at his first stop: the first two charging stations for the planned charging park next to the Allianz Arena at the Munich North motorway junction. FC Bayern legend Claudio Pizarro personally accepted the delivery from Santa Claus and gave him a jersey from the reigning German football champions in return.
Flagship project for decarbonisation
The two charging stations mark an important step on the way to a flagship project for the decarbonisation of freight and passenger transport: in future, up to 500 electric trucks and buses will be supplied with green electricity every day at the high-performance charging park. The Allianz Arena offers ideal conditions for this: a powerful power grid, 100 per cent use of green electricity, a location at one of Europe's most important transport hubs and – on non-match days – plenty of available space. Further charging points are planned in several stages of expansion. This means that the charging park will play a central role not only for long-distance transport, but also for FC Bayern Munich's first all-electric coach.
