MAN Truck & Bus and Flughafen München GmbH are stepping up the pace when it comes to electromobility – and are supporting the transition with the social media series “Boarding by eBus”. The focus: switching apron buses to emission-free MAN Lion’s City E vehicles, the climate target “Net Zero 2035”, and a highly motivated intern called Patrik. The intro is already online.
Anyone who has ever boarded a plane at Munich Airport will know them: the apron buses that take passengers from the terminal to the aircraft. But times are changing here too: AeroGround, a wholly owned subsidiary of Flughafen München GmbH responsible for ground handling, is converting its fleet completely. Where diesel engines used to rumble, ultra-modern, whisper-quiet MAN Lion’s City E buses now glide across the apron.
To celebrate this milestone, MAN and Munich Airport have come up with something special: a six-part social media campaign that not only explains the benefits of electromobility, but also shows how attractive and modern the job of bus driver is today.
Curtain up for the intern
In the intro, which has just premiered on MAN’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Shorts and LinkedIn), we meet Patrik. He is the new intern, alongside Franz – an experienced AeroGround bus driver. The dynamic between the two couldn’t be more entertaining. On one side, the lively Patrik; on the other, the down-to-earth Franz, who is calmness itself. Together, they take viewers on a journey behind the scenes at Munich Airport.
Behind the humorous performance lies a serious message. Munich Airport is pursuing the goal of achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2035 at the latest (“Net Zero 2035”). The MAN e-buses – 37 buses are already in operation there – play an important role in this. Over the coming years, a total of up to 74 electric apron buses are set to be deployed. A win for the climate, for passenger comfort, and for the quality of working life of the employees who work on the apron every day.
At the same time, the campaign is intended to show that driving a state-of-the-art, 12-metre-long electric bus at an airport is not only an extremely responsible job, but also a fascinating and future-proof one.
What to expect in the episodes
In the first episode, Patrik already gets his first taste of airport life – and then the journey really begins. Without giving too much away: viewers can look forward to exciting insights.
Among other things, Patrik will learn that charging a bus using the distinctive CCS plugs can sometimes feel like a workout at the gym (“pumping iron!”). He’ll ask AeroGround’s real experts all sorts of questions – from the environmental officer through to the management team, to whom Patrik will, of course, immediately present his “visionary” ideas.
And looming over everything is the big question Patrik asks himself from minute one: will he, the hyper-motivated intern, manage to get behind the wheel of a MAN Lion’s City E by the end of the series and take command?
The answer will come in the weeks ahead. Until then: join Patrik and Franz on their electrifying tour across the runway in Munich.
You can find the intro to “Boarding by eBus” on MAN Truck & Bus’s social media channels and on Munich Airport’s channels from now on. Tune in, leave a like, and follow along as the intern Patrik becomes a real e-bus professional!
