Engine and gearbox

The heart of the MAN Lion’s Coach E: The drivetrain has an output of 330 kW and an automatic 4-speed MAN TipMatic 4. The compact design enables extremely low weight and quiet driving.

Standard battery packs

The standard battery configuration with 4 packs, which is housed in the rear of the vehicle – yet still allowing for a cargo space as large as that of the diesel version.

Optional battery packs

Optional battery packs to maximize range, installed instead of the driver's sleeping cabin.

CCS charging port + charging box

The standard charging port for the proven CCS standard is located on the passenger side. An optional second connection provides more flexibility and can be installed either at the front on the driver's side or at the rear on the passenger side. A full charge is possible in about 1.5 hours. In addition, a charging capacity of up to 750 kW is available via the new Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard.

CO₂ heat pump

The highly efficient and environmentally friendly air conditioning system ensures the temperature of the passenger compartment, driver's seat and batteries. Carbon dioxide as a refrigerant is particularly efficient and both more sustainable and safer than many other chemicals used in air conditioning systems.

Battery and range – flexible and durable

The MAN Lion's Coach E is equipped with batteries that were developed at the MAN site in Nuremberg. They are based on the proven NMC technology (nickel-manganese-cobalt). The cell chemistry of these lithium-ion batteries has been specially developed for the high demands of electric commercial vehicles and is characterised by exceptional durability and safety.

The modular battery concept offers 4, 5 or 6 packs (320 kWh to 480 kWh usable) to adjust the range (up to 650 km)[in-development] and luggage compartment volume to suit your needs.

Drivetrain – Powerful and efficient

The electric central motor has an output of 330 kW. The automated 4-speed MAN TipMatic gearbox is specially designed for optimum energy consumption and power delivery in the typical speed range of a coach. This means that the right performance is always available with the appropriate efficiency. Engine and gearbox are manufactured in lightweight construction and form a compact unit.

Charging concept – Fast and compatible

The proven CCS charging standard offers up to 375 kW charging power, enabling a full charge in approximately 1.5 hours. Future integration of the MCS (Megawatt Charging System) standard will enable up to 750 kW for even faster charging. The vehicle is equipped with a main connection and an optional secondary connection.

Comprehensive safety concept

The MAN Lion’s Coach E offers special, coach-specific safety features: The side structure is additionally reinforced for even better impact protection. A sophisticated, unique system directs any hot gases generated under the vehicle away from the passengers.  In the event of a battery leak, the passenger area is therefore much better protected.
