The MAN Bus models
VECTO: the new standard for CO₂ and consumption values
Reliable, accurate and legally robust: With VECTO, the consumption and emission values of modern buses are simulated in a uniform manner.
The European Commission is prescribing a standardised simulation procedure for determining and declaring CO₂ emission and energy consumption values for new buses. The use of the official tool developed for this purpose, VECTO, which stands for Vehicle Energy Consumption Calculation Tool, has been mandatory for the registration of all city buses, coaches and intercity buses in Europe since 2024.
Unlike previous industry standards such as SORT, which are based on measurements taken from individual vehicles, VECTO does not determine CO₂ emissions, fuel consumption, energy consumption and range using conventional calculation methods. Instead, these values are simulated using standardised driving cycles and tailored to each individual vehicle configuration. Among other factors, the tool takes into account the vehicle mass, aerodynamics, rolling resistance and engine efficiency. The resulting simulated values and all relevant information are provided via the Customer Information File (CIF) through a certified, tamper-proof process.
This makes VECTO ideally suited as a benchmarking tool for vehicle procurement and positions it to gradually replace SORT in this role. Compared to SORT, VECTO offers numerous advantages, including greater standardisation and improved comparability, while also taking into account representative real-world operating profiles, realistic auxiliary loads and heating and air-conditioning systems.
