Pod system - Control & Drive

An important component of the integrated drive system:

  • Steerable underwater units ±30° – no rudders required
  • Horizontal thrust & counter-rotating propellers → up to +20% efficiency
  • Flow-optimized torpedo, CFD validated and tested in cavitation tunnel
  • Simple oil concept: One oil (75W90 API GL5) for gearbox & unit, oil change possible without crane removal
  • Crash-optimized design & Safe Release mechanism to avoid critical deceleration in collisions

Pros

  • Excellent maneuverability thanks to thrust vector control
  • Reduced vibration and noise
  • Low-maintenance and robustly designed

Propellers & Hydrodynamics

The interaction of propeller and hydrodynamics forms the basis for the outstanding performance of this propulsion system.

  • Over 10 propeller series, optimized for different hull shapes and speed ranges (20–35 kn)
  • The propeller geometries are precisely matched to the torpedo shape – this interaction maximizes propulsion, stability and efficiency in the speed window of 20–35 knots
  • Counter-rotating propellers increase efficiency and stability
  • Hydrodynamically optimized propellers & torpedo shapes for maximum performance

Pros

  • Powerful acceleration
  • Noticeably smoother driving dynamics
