MAN UK

At a glance

  • Helps to prevent accidents

Warns the driver of an impending collision with vehicles and particularly vulnerable road users and initiates emergency braking in the event of danger.

  • Warns traffic behind

The emergency brake flashing function warns following traffic in the event of emergency braking.

  • Combines two different sensor systems

The system combines data from the front camera, a forward-facing radar sensor and – depending on availability – additional side radar sensors.

Monitoring the traffic environment and intervening in hazardous situations

The MAN Emergency Brake Assist EBA Advanced[Van-LimitsSystem] helps significantly reduce the risk of accidents on the road. The system detects critical situations and complex traffic scenarios and warns the driver. If the driver fails to react, automatic full braking is initiated in hazardous situations.

Two sensor systems: Radar sensor and camera

The MAN Emergency Brake Assist[Van-LimitsSystem] combines the information from a radar sensor at the front of the vehicle, the forward-facing side radar sensors (if available) and a camera behind the windscreen. Thanks to this optimised sensor data fusion and more powerful functional logic, the system can detect hazardous situations even faster and with greater reliability, reliably interpret complex scenarios and initiate emergency braking earlier if necessary. The camera and radar sensor continuously monitor the traffic environment in front of the vehicle, while the side radar sensors also detect crossing vulnerable road users (e.g. pedestrians or cyclists when turning). The system also offers significantly improved performance at night.

Three-stage warning and braking sequence with driver focus

If a collision is imminent, the driver receives visual and acoustic warnings in stages, while the system simultaneously reduces engine torque and builds up brake pressure. Particularly sophisticated: The system takes the driver’s attention into account using the MAN Driver Monitoring System – if the driver is distracted, the system may intervene earlier. The warning levels (early, normal, late) can also be individually preselected in the instrumentation.

Initiation of emergency braking

If the driver fails to react, the MAN Emergency Brake Assist[Van-LimitsSystem] automatically initiates emergency braking. Rear-end collisions can thus be avoided. During emergency braking, an emergency stopping signal (ESS) is activated in addition to the brake lights. The hazard warning lights signal the emergency situation to other road users by flashing at an increased frequency, thereby reducing the risk of a rear-end collision with traffic behind.

The system is designed to meet the relevant legal requirements and supports compliance with current or upcoming safety requirements.
