Two sensor systems: radar and camera
The assistance system is based on a new system architecture: A combination of a front radar sensor and the front-facing side radar sensors provides comprehensive monitoring of the area directly in front of the truck. A video camera behind the windscreen also detects objects and lane markings. Thanks to this intelligent sensor data fusion, the system can reliably assess speeds, directions of movement and object types.
Visual warning (warning level 1)
If there is an object in the monitoring area while the truck is at a standstill, a coloured area to the front of the truck is shown on the instrumentation display. The system can prevent or delay moving off if a risk of collision is detected.
Acoustic warning signal and brake intervention (warning level 2 & Plus function)
If an object moves in the monitoring area when the truck is moving, the area in front of the vehicle shown in the display flashes and an acoustic warning signal sounds. With Front Detection Plus, the system also intervenes in the powertrain control and service brake at the same time as these warning signals to stop the truck.
Flexible settings
The system is automatically activated each time the engine is started. In the version that can be deactivated, the driver can choose between “OFF”, “warning only” and “warning with braking intervention” in the menu.
