How the three stage brake stabilisation works

Negotiating downhill gradients on slippery surfaces or wet roads with a heavy trailer or semitrailer is one of the most demanding tasks in day to day transport operations. If the towing vehicle decelerates in such situations, the pushing trailer can destabilise the vehicle combination. The electronic trailer stability brake reliably stabilises the vehicle combination.
Using intelligent software logic, the system precisely controls the trailer brake pressures to stabilise the vehicle combination at the critical moment. This can help maintain driving stability even under demanding conditions, whether on winding downhill stretches in long haul transport, on snow covered country roads or when manoeuvring on unpaved forest tracks.

This mode operates proactively in the background. It detects potentially dangerous situations such as jackknifing and helps prevent them by controlling the trailer brake pressure. The vehicle combination is stabilised before the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) needs to intervene, ideal for winding roads, snow or downhill terrain.
Acts reactively when the regular service brake is applied on downhill gradients. The system ensures that the trailer or semitrailer is electronically controlled to decelerate slightly more than the towing vehicle. This effectively prevents heavy loads from pushing against the towing vehicle on tight bends.
The Manual Control mode is specially designed for demanding situations. When stationary, the trailer can be braked separately to ensure safe coupling or manoeuvring in confined spaces. When driving slowly, up to approx. 30 km/h, the driver can briefly apply the trailer brake using a button to manually stabilise the vehicle combination in particularly challenging situations, such as steep bends on forest roads. Telescopic trailers can also be conveniently extended or retracted using the manual MAN Trailer Stability Control, MAN Manual Control.
