Location with tradition and future

An Oktoberfest in the middle of summer: When a 40-metre-high Ferris wheel for 200 people and a large beer tent are set up on the MAN plant site in Munich in June, there must be something very special to celebrate. And so it was. Some 20,000 people, including some 8,000 workers with their families, came to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the MAN parent plant. She expected an extensive supporting programme and exciting exhibits, including 40 historic vehicles up to the eTruck and the current team buses of FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich.

"We can all take pride in the site’s history," said MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp. "The development and series production of our "Made in Munich" eTruck is the latest evidence of the plant’s innovative strength and adaptability, as well as a historic milestone for MAN and the site. Together, we have always found the right solutions for all challenges and have combined history and modernity well. The powerful tradition is also a good foundation on which the future can be built."

Continuous expansion of the traditional plant

Since 1955, the Munich plant has produced 1.25 million trucks, two million cabs and three million axles. Over the last 70 years, MAN has been constantly expanding the hall space on the plant premises. In 2008, the two administrative buildings on Dachauer Straße were built and later the Truck Forum and the Bus Forum were built. These are used both as exhibition and event space and for handing over vehicles to customers. From 2016, the construction of the new painting plant and the state-of-the-art body construction as well as the engineering and test building added further buildings on the plant premises.

Paulaner delivers with electric lion and horse combination

Another key component of the MAN sustainability strategy is the switch to e-mobility. No wonder that the new eTruck also took on a central task at the anniversary celebration: The Paulaner brewery from Munich delivered the beer for the guests with an electric lion. And as befits the eTruck, a horse-drawn vehicle also brought some beer barrels to the plant. "For us, the fact that we are delivering the beer with a horse-drawn vehicle and electric truck on the company anniversary is a strong symbol: We combine our centuries-old brewing tradition with innovative technology – and show that sustainability is possible in many forms," said Jörg Bieberneck, CEO of the Paulaner Group.
