Prevent fuel theft – protect value and reliability
Annoying for the driver and costly for the fleet operator: Diesel theft is responsible for substantial losses in transport and distribution operations every year. In addition to the cost of the stolen fuel itself, damaged filler necks and empty tanks in the morning can cause major operational delays.
MAN offers two perfectly coordinated protection systems for diesel vehicles that can either make unauthorised access to the fuel tank considerably more difficult or actively deter theft by triggering an alarm.
Mechanical fuel theft protection
The mechanical protection consists of a basket-shaped insert made of high-strength plastic that is permanently fitted in the filler neck. This robust barrier effectively prevents a hose from being inserted to siphon off fuel. Good to know: The insert does not impair fuel flow during normal refuelling at the pump.
New: Electronic fuel theft prevention system
MAN’s innovative electronic tank protection system continuously monitors the fuel level – especially when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is switched off. If the sensors detect a rapid drop in the diesel level indicating possible theft, an alarm is triggered immediately. The driver can choose between two alarm levels in the vehicle menu:
- Internal alarm: An unauthorised change in fuel level is shown to the driver as a prominent warning symbol in the instrumentation display the next time the system is started.
- External alarm: To deter and distract potential thieves, the vehicle automatically switches on the parking lights and, if fitted, the work lights. At the same time, a clearly audible cyclical alarm sounds via the external reversing buzzer.
Future-ready connectivity: The electronic protection system is prepared for integration into MAN DigitalServices. In future, the alarm, including the exact vehicle position, timestamp and tank status, can be transmitted over-the-air, directly to the vehicle operator.

24 V battery management system [Van-AdditionalCosts] : for a reliable start
Empty batteries and stranded vehicles due to excessive use of electrical devices during rest times – with the 24 V Battery Management System, [Van-AdditionalCosts] this is a thing of the past. The system comprehensively monitors the state of the battery to detect critical conditions at an early stage and ensure that the vehicle engine can be started. If discharge status is imminent, comfort consumers are automatically switched off first, then functional consumers and then finally all consumers. In the event of a possible deep discharge – and the associated battery damage – or loss of starting ability, MAN battery management completely stops power consumption [adr-battery], deactivates idle shut down [adr-battery] and raises the idling speed [adr-battery].

While increasing digitisation and networking of electronic systems in vehicles enables myriad new useful functions and applications, it also provides attack surfaces for hackers. In light of this, cybersecurity is playing an increasingly important role. MAN consistently protects all vehicle systems against unauthorised access by taking appropriate measures. These prevent the use of data by unauthorised persons and ensure secure vehicle operation.
MAN SimplePay [man-simplepay]: Simpler payments and cost control
With the digital service MAN SimplePay, it will soon be possible to make contactless payments for charges incurred on the road via the MAN Driver App: for example for refuelling, parking fees or even for the truck wash. In addition, drivers of MAN trucks will soon be able to pay for fuel digitally via a suitable MAN media system in the vehicle, provided that the truck is fitted with an appropriate telematics box. In the event of a breakdown, the automatic cost approval of €1,500 – 5,000 stored in MAN SimplePay ensures problems will be dealt with quicker. Fleet managers have complete transparency and control over incurred costs almost in real time via the digital fleet solution. This saves drivers from having to go to the cashier’s booth and means that it is easier for fleet managers to identify potential savings and possible cases of refuelling fraud.
