The technology behind the new engine is impressive: the XPI injection system operates at a pressure of up to 1,800 bar and 10-hole injection nozzles atomise the fuel so finely that combustion is almost perfect. As a result, the fuel burns faster and more completely – a decisive factor in increasing efficiency.
Added to this is the optimised turbocharging that uses different charger geometries depending on the performance class (380-440 hp or 480-560 hp). Reliability is our top priority. This is an important aspect for long-distance truck drivers like Michael, because downtime ultimately means lost time and money.
The perfect duo for your everyday life: D30 and TipMatic 14
In the D30 PowerLion, the D30 always works in tandem with the new MAN TipMatic 14 gearbox. The 14-speed gearbox is not only 60 kg lighter than its predecessor, but also more efficient – and Michael can feel this first-hand in the cab.
What does this mean for your journeys and when manoeuvring?
The shifts are quick enough to be barely perceptible – so there are no noticeable interruptions in traction. With the overdrive in 14th gear, the engine revs are so low on the motorway that fuel consumption is further reduced and the background noise in the cab remains pleasantly quiet.
What is particularly ingenious is that the new MAN EasyStart anti-roll bar with creep function makes starting and manoeuvring as easy as in an automatic car. When manoeuvring, Michael can drive the vehicle with millimetre precision using the brakes alone, without having to constantly switch between the accelerator and clutch – a real boon to ease the stressful challenge of everyday driving.
