Green machine

Having set up his own business and bought a new MAN TGX, Daniel Spiri had a ground-breaking year in various ways in 2021. After a year going independent, he knows he made the right decisions – with his company, Spiri-Truck GmbH, and his MAN TGX 18.510 with MAN HydroDrive.

Looking back, 2021 was a very special time for Daniel Spiri. Last year saw him found his own company and fulfil his dream of having his first ever custom-built truck. This came in the form of a grass-green MAN TGX 18.510 with MAN HydroDrive equipped with and all the extras MAN has to offer.

From a business point of view, being his own boss was an enticing step for Daniel. “It’s an extremely exciting year to look back on in every sense,” the young owner adds. And with some help from his father, Bruno, Daniel managed to notch up a good first business year, the 36-year-old explains. “The first year was a tremendous success for us with a huge number of orders that we were able to complete for our clients.” That involved Daniel travelling some 72,450 kilometres in his MAN TGX, whose reliability has played a significant role in the business’ success with fulfilling its freight orders. No matter whether it was used in a construction pit, on the road or off road, the green powerhouse would have cut a fine figure in every driving situation, he is happy to note.

With Daniel having worked for a company as an employee driver in his previous job, the question naturally arises of whether he misses anything from that time. “Working for myself is something I’m enjoying to the fullest,” Daniel replies. “With my dad working as my business partner, we can grow even closer together in our family and do a super job – him handling the admin side of things and me doing the driving.” It has been nice that there has still been time for family, too, he explains, even if this has had to take something of a back seat to the stressful day-to-day job at times.

“But what I like most about being self-employed is having such a cool truck to represent myself and our business,” the Swiss driver chuckles.

“We’re eye-catchers virtually everywhere we go!”

Daniel is not the only one who enjoys the way his MAN TGX looks. It has also had a highly positive reception from other HGV enthusiasts. Time and time again, he has received photos, messages and videos in which he has been spotted out on the road, and he earns plenty of compliments about the well-designed MAN truck..
