FAQs

Are you interested in our programme for doctorate students and would like to find out more? We have summarised the most important questions and answers on the topics of application, employment and recruitment for you.

The advantages of our doctorate programme are extremely multifaceted. You not only have the opportunity to conduct theoretical research on future topics, but you can also actively shape them in an application and practice-oriented way, from development to our end customers, and gain industrial experience at an early stage in your career. In addition, our doctorate programme offers you countless opportunities to network throughout the VW Group and to develop both professionally and personally.

After successfully completing your doctorate, you can apply for our internally advertised positions. Our doctorate students therefore have very good chances of being recruited.

The duration of the MAN doctorate programme depends on the individual duration of the associated research project. As a rule, it is 3 years.

Doctorate students are employed by their respective universities. This means that they are remunerated as public sector employees according to the pay group applicable for the federal state.

Each doctorate student is assisted by a departmental supervisor (mentor), as it is called. A current doctorate student, who already has previous programme experience, will be at your side as your “Buddy”. In terms of your scientific development, you will work closely with the supervision at the university. Questions on general HR topics will be answered by the responsible Business Partner.

In principle, a doctorate / project work is possible in every department. It depends on future topics in the respective fields that are to be investigated through a doctorate.

Our doctorate students work on their research topics during the assignment. In addition to the actual research, there is also the opportunity to present your findings to the Executive Board at events such as the annual doctorate colloquium – and thus to exchange professional ideas. Networking events, such as regular fireside evenings, are also part of the doctorate programme and ensure group-wide networking.

Interested students can apply via our Job portal or use online job portals about vacant doctorate positions. Corresponding positions are also always advertised at the respective cooperating university. You can therefore apply directly via MAN and/or the universities. Interviews and appointments to get to know each other then take place in the company with the department, the chair, and HR.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the coordinator of the doctorate programme at MAN Truck & Bus SE, Isabel Mothes-Weiss. You can also contact the departments directly, which are announced in the job advertisements. Likewise, the cooperating university is available to answer your questions.
