Information on the "EU Data Act“

Data is created all the time and everywhere. Our vehicles also generate and send data. We use this general data for numerous data-based products and services that support your fleet management. To continue benefiting from these offerings, we require your explicit acceptance. This is regulated by the EU Data Act.

According to the EU Data Act, as a manufacturer of connected products and services, we are obliged to create a legal basis (End User License Agreement) with you as a user of these services. The EU Data Act will come into force on September 12, 2025.

In order for MAN Truck & Bus SE (MAN T&B) to continue providing you with digital services and other data-based products and services, we are obliged by the EU Data Act to conclude an additional contract that enables the processing of vehicle data necessary for delivering these services. You will receive this contract via RIO Portal and via the MAN sales organization.

1. General Information about data

a) Access to data

Specifically data access under the European Data Act is covered by MAN Truck & Bus in cooperation with the Volkswagen Group Info Services, a fully owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. Even more, please find detailed terms of use and more options on data products for special purposes (Fleet, non-captive leasing etc.) on this dedicated website.

MAN Truck & Bus customers can submit data requests for their MAN Truck & Bus fleet and share data with third parties.

Depending on the vehicle or existing RIO registration, there are different ways to request vehicle data:

  • For MAN customers (including trucks and buses) with an existing RIO account and activated MAN vehicles, the data request can be made directly via the following link:

    A login is required; user groups such as administrators and fleet managers have corresponding access rights.
  • MAN customers with networked products (e.g. Trucks & Buses with RIO Box) who are not yet registered on RIO, please follow the following steps to self-register on the RIO platform:

Please note that the data query for MAN Van customers (TGE) is carried out via Volkswagen Group Info Services (VW GIS) and is therefore different from the process for Truck & Bus customers. Further information on this can be found under point 3. Van.

Generally the format(s) for the above datatypes are:

Estimated Volume:

MAN’s Connected Products offer various versions and customization options. The general estimated volume of the data generated in our Connected Products is highly dependent on the individual vehicle parameters (including but not limited to version, equipment, type of use, modifications, digital service bookings).

b) whether the connected product is capable of generating data continuously and in real-time;

All Connected Product types are capable of generating data continuously and in real time.

  

c) whether the connected product is capable of storing data on-device or on a remote server, including, where applicable, the intended duration of retention

Connected Products store data on board as well as are capable of sending data to backends. Retention duration of collected data depends on the type of data and use-case. Data retention on the current backends is possible for up to 10 years.

User types

The EU Data Act defines different types of users, each with specific rights and responsibilities regarding data access and management. Whether you are a private individual, a business, a third party, or a government authority, your role determines how you can interact with and utilize generated data.

Private user

A private user is a natural person who owns a connected vehicle, has a transferred contractual right or receives a related service for the use of the vehicle.

Your rights & options:

  • Request your data: Obtain a copy of your historical data
  • Customize data access: Select specific data points to access or share
  • Authorize third party access: Grant permission for third party services
  • Manage consent: Review and modify permissions via your "Brand" ID portal

Business user

A business user is a company or entity that owns a connected vehicle, has a transferred contractual right or receives a related service for the use of the vehicle.

  • Share data securely: Facilitate controlled data exchange with partners and service providers

Third Party

A third party is a company or entity, such as an insurance company, a service provider, or any other company / entity that is granted access to generated data upon user request.
