Professional vehicle induction

A new vehicle in the fleet, a planned roll-out or the desire to refresh your knowledge? To operate a MAN truck, bus or van safely and efficiently — regardless of the drivetrain — a sound understanding of the vehicle’s technology is essential.

The professional, multi-stage vehicle handover powered by MAN ProfiDrive® imparts this knowledge through a standardised theoretical and practical introduction. Drivers are systematically familiarised with their new vehicle and learn to safely operate all key functions.

For vehicles with custom configurations, optional equipment or special bodywork, the handover expert prepares specifically for the vehicle in question, incorporating relevant systems such as ABBI and the Sales Truck Portal. This also ensures that vehicle-specific features and characteristics are explained professionally and effectively.

What you will learn: From MAN engine technology to driver assistance systems

The professional, multi-stage vehicle induction takes place in eight clearly defined steps:

  1. Tour of the vehicle: The induction begins with a systematic vehicle check-up. Safety-relevant check points, maintenance points and fill levels are explained and routines for pre- and post-trip vehicle checks are established.
  2. Access to the driver's seat: The safe step unit and the optimal ergonomic adjustment of the seat, steering wheel and mirrors provide the foundation for focused and safe driving. Comfort and safety functions are explained and configured correctly.
  3. Cockpit and displays: The digital instrumentation, displays for speed, performance and driving programmes, as well as warning messages, are explained clearly and comprehensively. Drivers learn to interpret vehicle-relevant information correctly and apply it efficiently.
  4. Controls and driving functions: In addition to the multifunction steering wheel, SmartSelect and gear controls, the focus is also on understanding the drivetrain and engine technology. Participants learn how to make optimal use of engine speed ranges and shift gears efficiently.
  5. Brake management and driving safety: Engine brake, retarder and electronic brake systems are explained. The aim is to carry out braking manoeuvres safely, in a manner that is gentle on materials and reduces wear, and to use maximum braking performance appropriately for the situation.
  6. Media systems and air conditioning: Navigation, telephony and smartphone integration are explained, as are the functions of the automatic air-conditioning system, auxiliary air-conditioning system and auxiliary heater. This ensures the vehicle is used optimally from both a technical and ergonomic perspective.
  7. Driver assistance systems: Modern assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, emergency braking or lane keeping systems are explained with regard to their function, system limits and display. When used correctly, they promote safety, efficiency and driver relief.
  8. Rest area, stowage compartments and storage space: Finally, the sleeping and seating functions, storage solutions and additional power sockets are presented. This makes the cab a comfortable workplace in daily use.

Professional vehicle induction with driver support

The path to sustainable optimisation

Do you want to maximise the learning effect of the basic induction and embed your newly acquired knowledge permanently in day-to-day working life? Then this extended course variant is the ideal choice.

After the joint on-site vehicle briefing, the actual follow-up support phase begins. For this purpose, you can book the MAN Connected CoDriver training. Your trainer uses the Perform service to analyse your real driving data from daily operations. Based on this data, you will receive valuable, personal feedback and concrete tips for further optimisation in up to eight individual tele-coaching sessions – directly over the phone.

This continuous dialogue between driver and trainer ensures that an efficient and safe driving style is established in the long term and becomes routine. As such, you are not only investing in professional vehicle instruction, but also in the sustainable increase of your driving performance.

When is professional vehicle induction the right decision?

This training has been developed to address specific challenges in drivers’ day-to-day work and fleet management. It is the ideal investment in the following situations:

From the perspective of drivers:

In the event of vehicle handover: If you are taking over a new MAN vehicle and want to confidently operate all functions from day one, without any uncertainty.

In the event of technical uncertainty: If you want to exploit the full potential of modern driver assistance systems (ADAS), rather than merely perceiving them as complicated or even disruptive.

To optimise driving style: If you want to understand the specific driveline technology in detail – from MAN engine technology to gearboxes – with a view to driving as economically as possible and with minimum wear.

For maximum safety: If you want to familiarise yourself with all active and passive safety equipment so as to be optimally prepared for all eventualities in road traffic.

From the perspective of fleet management:

To safeguard your investment: If you want to add new vehicles to the fleet and maximise value retention from the outset through correct, material-saving operation.

To reduce operating costs: If you want to actively reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) by learning how to fully exploit the efficiency potential of MAN vehicles.

To standardise knowledge: If you want to ensure a consistently high level of knowledge among all driving personnel and avoid typical, costly operating errors.

To reduce risks: If you want to ensure that safety systems are used correctly in order to actively minimise the risk of accidents and associated downtime.

General questions about training

How many modules do I have to complete?
You have to submit evidence of completing a minimum of five modules, of seven hours each, to the driver’s licensing authorities.

Which modules do I have to complete?
At least one module must be completed from each of the three areas of knowledge specified by the legislator. The two additional modules can be freely selected from the areas of knowledge specified. No module should be used twice however.

  • Area of knowledge 1: Modules 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 10
  • Area of knowledge 2: Module 4
