The MAN eTGX is electrifying long-haul transport

The new MAN eTGX is new competition for conventional semitrailer tractors - over longer distances. This applies whether it is a semitrailer tractor or a chassis variant: The Megawatt Charging System means the electric truck has a charging capacity of up to 750 kW and can be charged during breaks of around 45 minutes so that the scope is up to 350 kilometres - ideal for covering long distances. After work is over, the driver can rest in a comfortable rest area inside the cab. The MAN eTGX is also environmentally friendly and silent, relieving the load on drivers and residents. Inclusive and always on board: MAN DigitalServices such as MAN eManager or MAN SmartRoute.

MAN eTGX: a new era in long-haul transport

Powerful over long distances: High efficiency and payloads as well as comfort during driving mean the MAN eTGX is an electric champion for many different long-haul transport applications - whether it is a standard and ultra semi-trailer tractor or swap body vehicle. It has a range of around 500¹ kilometres without interim charging for typical semitrailer use, and when in multi-swap body use in solo operation, this is around 700¹ kilometres.

A clear overview: the new standard view on the high-resolution 12.3-inch colour display features intuitive controls and a user-friendly overview of key vehicle data. The semi-circular scaling of the speedometer and rev counter creates more space in the centre for additional information such as electric PTOs.

The heart of the MAN eTGX: the battery

MAN batteries

Use of a truck driveline completely depends on one thing: the battery. For this reason, the new MAN eTGX features batteries which are specially designed for use in the new electric truck - at the MAN location in Nuremberg. This means the expertise behind one of the most important components in the MAN eTGX remains in-house. Depending on the use of the electric truck, capacities of up to 480 kWh can be chosen - which ensure ranges of around 500¹ kilometres without interim charging, such as for typical semitrailer use. Due to its new megawatt charging system with up to 750 kW, it takes about 45 minutes for empty battery packs to be largely recharged.

Well maintained is half the battle

The battery-specific maintenance intervals depend heavily on the deployment profile of the new MAN eTGX. They are therefore calculated and determined individually for each vehicle. Continuous analyses of the battery data help with this. MAN ServiceCare combines this data into a maintenance plan that your MAN service outlet can proactively discuss with you.

Average use of the new MAN eTrucks can result in lower maintenance requirements and less wear and tear than for diesel vehicles – though this depends heavily on the individual purpose of use.

Repair, don’t replace

The high-voltage battery packs are a major part of the acquisition costs for an electric truck. It therefore makes sense from an economic and environmental perspective to repair the battery cost-effectively rather than replacing it entirely when it comes to the most common faults. Defective cells, faulty battery management system components or leaks in the cooling circuit: the teams at our MAN service bases will be able to repair these and many other faults in future. We are currently working on typical fault patterns, diagnostic software and suitable repair methods so that they will be ready for use by the service bases when production of the electric truck starts. Another step towards a more sustainable future.

Battery removal made easy

The fastening mechanism of the high-voltage battery packs developed by MAN mean that the battery packs can be removed quickly to the side. This normally takes a lot of time and is therefore very expensive, particularly for vehicles with bodies attached. After disconnecting the peripheral lines, all you have to do to remove the MAN eTGX batteries is loosen the locking screws and slide the battery pack out to the side – a real time-saver.
