Animation for MAN Emergency Brake Assist (EBA Plus)

At a glance

  • Intervention in dangerous situations
Warns the driver of a possible collision and activates emergency braking in an emergency.
  • Keeping an eye out for vulnerable individuals
Helps prevent accidents involving vulnerable road users who cross the driving zone.
  • Activates the hazard warning system
Warns traffic behind the truck in the event of emergency braking by activating the emergency brake flashing function.

Increased safety for vulnerable individuals

In an emergency, automatic braking intervention up to full braking – so far this has succeeded in significantly reducing the risk of collision with other vehicles. But what happens if pedestrians or cyclists suddenly enter the driving zone? The enhanced Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) Plus now also warns and responds specifically to weaker, more vulnerable road users.

1
Radar sensor and camera working together

The emergency brake assist EBA Plus combines information from radar sensors installed on the front of the vehicle with data from the camera integrated in the windscreen. Thanks to this sensor fusion, the system can detect dangerous situations even more quickly and securely, and initiate emergency braking in case of serious danger sooner. Camera and radar sensor permanently monitor the traffic area in front of the vehicle: Distances, positions and speeds are detected both from vehicles in front and from subjects crossing the driving zone.

2
Optical and acoustic warning

If there is a risk of collision, the driver is initially warned by a visual and acoustic signal from a driving speed of 10 km/h.

3
Initiation of emergency braking

If the driver fails to react, the emergency brake assistant EBA Plus autonomously activates emergency braking. In this way, rear-end collisions and collisions with weaker road users can be avoided. During emergency braking, an emergency stopping signal (ESS) is activated in addition to the brake lights. The hazard warning system signals the emergency situation to surrounding vehicles by an increased flashing frequency thereby reducing the risk of a rear-end collision.
