Industrial Governance
Classification of tasks and responsibilities within the MAN Group
The Industrial Governance System is the MAN Group's management system. It regulates the distribution of tasks and responsibilities between MAN Group headquarters and the divisions.
Four important and fundamental principles are defined in the Industrial Governance System; these apply to all divisions within the MAN Group:
- Benchmark again the best in class
- No tolerance for losses
- Transparency and commitment
- Behavior and how we work are important
Industrial Governance increases the entrepreneurial strength of the divisions by clearly assigning operational responsibility to them. Responsibility for the Group’s strategic management, on the other hand, lies with the MAN SE Management Board, in which all core areas are represented.
MAN headquarters is responsible for developing the Group’s overall strategy and structure, promoting and deploying management staff, ensuring goal-oriented and active management and for the Group’s central financing. Our management system is supported by common methods and shared services.

The shared services concept, in which common services are organized, is part of the Industrial Governance System. In recent years, the MAN Group has founded its own companies for financial services (MAN Finance International GmbH) and personnel services (MAN HR Services GmbH); furthermore, it manages external IT service providers.
The structure of the Industrial Governance System resembles a house that stands on a broad foundation of four basic values representing the company’s brands and culture. We constantly work to improve this management system. This has seen new strategy and management control processes developed, management audits carried out and a Group-wide job market system introduced as well as new retirement schemes and variable compensation systems.
