At MAN, flexibility is a valuable asset. As a trainee I had two years to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the organization. But the plan soon changed and I became a project manager in plant planning. It was a huge challenge, as I had very little time to acquaint myself with my new surroundings. But the new post also gave me the chance to prove myself. Today I’m responsible for planning projects at the tendering stage worth millions of euros. It’s a huge responsibility, and you can’t afford to get your estimates wrong. Moving in unknown territory has become part and parcel of my job, which is exactly what I love about it. If you’re open to new challenges, you’ll broaden your own horizons. While I was a candidate for my diploma in strategic product development, I developed a mathematical model for optimising our product decisions. I was thrilled at already being able to work on a topic with such far-reaching implications for the company as part of my dissertation. During this period I also met my future boss, who offered me the opportunity of putting my scientific results into practice autonomously at MAN. What impressed me besides this was the interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues from other branches. In this way I learned about the commercial aspects, enabling me to come up with holistic solutions to the questions facing me. I now team up with my colleagues to develop environmentally friendly technologies for our big diesel engines.

My childhood dream: one day I would develop trucks myself. After all, my father drove an MAN truck and often took me with him on trips. Right after I finished high school I started working on my dream career. I began with an internship at MAN. Thanks to my good performance, the company supported me throughout my studies. The scholarship enabled me to study mechanical engineering and at the same time, it gave me valuable practical experience. For example, in India I created a controlling tool that can be used to monitor the progress of a project. As a works student, I optimised the variance of our tyre portfolio. I wrote my dissertation about a truck concept for the Latin American market. At MAN I've always found new and exciting challenges. For the past year I've been a trainee in the area of Product Management.

When I was studying computer science I dealt mainly with abstract things like numbers and formulae. But I wanted to do something more concrete, with a final product that I could see and touch. And that's exactly what I found at MAN. After only three months I was given the order for an IT project in the Sales Division. As members of the project team we quickly recognised the chance and the potential offered by such a project and its strategic importance. As a result, the range of the project broadened and the focus of my work shifted: as sub-project manager I worked together with the user division on developing the specifications and acted as consultant to the programmers during implementation. The result of our two years' work was a manufacturer's portal that enables our customers to follow our production processes.

It was with pride that I saw how enthusiastically our customers greeted the system when it was introduced at the IAA Commercial Vehicles.
