Preferred Partner TU Munich
The Technical University Munich is one of Germany's few elite universities. It was awarded a much sought-after distinction in 2006 as part of an Excellence Initiative organized by the German Ministry of Education. There are currently around 26,000 students enrolled at TU Munich.
A special feature of this university is the "UnternehmerTUM GmbH", an organization where young academics are confronted with the challenges of their future daily working lives. In a free-market environment they learn to develop entrepreneurial thinking skills in addition to technical excellence. UnternehmerTUM GmbH partners the MAN Group in implementing innovative projects and organizing lectures.
The MAN Campus Initiative at the Technical University Munich:
- MAN Innovation Projects
-
Every year MAN sponsors up to five innovation projects together with the Technical University Munich and UnternehmerTUM GmbH. Small core teams of between two and four students deal in particular with developing prototypes – and it is not uncommon for the prototypes to end up being patented.
The teams work largely independently under the guidance of UnternehmerTUM GmbH and project supervisors from MAN. They are responsible for managing the project and adhering to the time constraints. Each participant invests around ten hours per week on the project over a period of three to six months (depending on the scope of the project).
Our innovation projects have a practical orientation. They are geared towards the needs of our customers but also aim to improve internal processes. Both students and MAN employees can submit recommendations for innovation projects.
MAN innovation project methodology:
1. Analysis phase: identify customer and market requirements
2. Design phase: develop possible solutions, business plan
3. Build phase: build a prototype of the idea
4. Play phase: present, get customer feedback and run tests
5. Review phase: implement feedback, optimizeApplication
If you are a student at TU Munich and wish to participate in an innovation project you can send your application to our partner,
UnternehmerTUM GmbH.
- MAN Lectures
-
MAN Lectures are a forum where managers from MAN and other well-known companies pass on their expertise in the lecture theater. They have been taking place at the TU Munich central campus during the winter semester since October 2007 and deal with almost every element of the value chain in growth-oriented, high-tech companies – from purchasing, development and production through to controlling, marketing and sales.
In the 2011/2012 winter semester MAN will be launching a lecture series entitled "Innovative Entrepreneurs," in which top managers from the MAN Group and other well-known companies will be giving insights into the working world. The theme of lectures for this year is "Sustainability vs. Grwoth?".
The lectures will be held Thursdays between 5.30 pm and 7.00 pm on the TU Munich central campus (HS 1100, Arcisstr. 21, 80333 Munich). The detailed program for upcoming lectures will be announced shortly.
- MAN Scholarships
-
MAN supports talented students from the Technical University Munich with scholarships, since we firmly believe that enthusiasm for progress should be encouraged early on. Our scholarships not only relieve your financial situation but also help you focus on preparing for your career. For example, scholarship holders will be invited to seminars and events or to plant visits during which they can get to know MAN employees.
Scholarship program "Deutschlandstipendium":MAN wishes to promote outstanding young scientists as much as possible and has accordingly made up its mind to take part in the "Deutschlandstipendium" scholarship program. This will enable particularly talented students with an excellent track record to concentrate entirely on their studies and give them enough scope to put their ability to full use. The funding of the scholarships amounting to 300 euros per month is split equally between the State and private sponsors, companies and foundations.
It is left to the uinversity's discretion to choose who is to be awarded a scholarship. Not only above-average results but other criteria are taken into consideration: these include voluntary social commitment, looking after relatives or overcoming particularly difficult biographical hurdles. Once a year, TUM invites all the sponsors and scholarship holders to a get-together to make each other's acquaintance.
