The announcement of this partnership caught us by surprise, and it really was an exciting moment for all of us. Two months after joining the company I was put in charge of the production department for injection systems and tasked with restructuring it. It was an exciting challenge – a very demanding project that carried a lot of responsibility. It involved working with all the departments, which was a great learning experience. Through collaborating with my colleagues on the commercial side, I developed my knowledge of business management. The whole project, from planning to implementation, was completed in just one year.

I’m a volunteer member of the plant fire brigade at MAN. Everyone here is willing to shoulder responsibility and look after each other – and that applies to the whole company. Some years ago I was deployed to Paris as a site manager for MAN. Unfortunately, all the plans were written in French – and at the time I didn’t know a word of the language. Without my team, I’d have been lost. Initially we were to supervise just one phase of the construction, but our work was so well received that we managed the project right through to the end.

Together, we built the first MAN gas turbine in Paris. I now work with several teams, helping them to build new gas turbines and improve on existing ones. Everyone is 100 percent committed to the job, and that’s what makes us successful. And that’s why I still love working for this company, even after 40 years.
If you show team spirit, you’ll earn the support of the rest of your team. Even when there are risks to be taken, we look after each other.

A few months ago I was put in charge of strategic planning. Introducing this planning process to the company was one of my first challenging projects. The new system affected everyone, whether they were engineers, managers or legal staff. My goal was to reconcile different perspectives and interests, because I needed the acceptance of the whole organization. Strategic planning always means changes, but everyone had a strongly focused and constructive approach. At MAN we are all members of the same team and we treat each other with respect.
If you want to achieve something, you need to be able to win over others. When you have mutual respect and team spirit, suddenly everything is much easier.
