Challenges drive us
At MAN, we offer our employees many opportunities to grow with their tasks.
In a competitive global environment, MAN sustains its position thanks to outstanding engineering achievements and the highest quality in manufacturing. This is only possible as a result of the rigorous advanced training and motivation of all our employees. For this reason, we promote our employees' initiative, willingness to learn and support their growth through systematic personnel development.
Taking on challenges and growing with their tasks: employees can gather international experience at our locations around the world and switch between our four subgroups. But there are also many fascinating challenges on offer within each single subgroup, for example developing new products or building up new areas of activity. Whoever accepts these challenges and shows talent and commitment is supported in their personal development by extensive programs and training:
- Management development from within the group
-
Employees who possess exceptional technical, business and social skills and who have the corresponding aptitude participate in our management development program. The program provides step-by-step preparation to managers and high potentials for their future tasks. Since we have a policy of training future managers from within, we are able to fill most management positions with our own employees. You can find out more here.
- Performance and potential appraisal
-
At the core of our personnel management system is a fair and objective way of appraising performance and potential, which we at MAN carry out on a regular basis. Employees and line managers annually conduct a joint examination and appraisal of an employee's skills from their own particular perspective. The results of the appraisal are then included in a personal development plan.
- Personal development plan
-
An agreement covering personal development and assistance is reached on the basis of the potential appraisal. By matching the employee's skills profile with their experience and future tasks, it is possible to decide on specific developmental measures for the coming year. These include:
“On the job” activities
The dynamic environment at MAN regularly offers committed employees the chance to grow with new responsibilities. For example, they can extend their own cultural horizons during a temporary placement abroad, gather leadership experience as an assistant manager for several months or improve their management techniques as a project manager.
“Off the job” activities
Specialist seminars, personal development training, coaching or development programs at the MAN Executive Academy or other selected business schools – MAN's comprehensive range of development programs gives all employees the possibility to continue to develop their own social and technical abilities.
- Target agreement system
-
Managers and employees together agree on personal objectives in annual target agreement interviews. An end-of-year performance appraisal serves to determine how far the employee has succeeded in achieving their objectives. It also determines the variable bonus which is linked to the achievement of targets and represents a direct correlation between personal performance and the success of the company.
