The announcement of this partnership caught us by surprise, and it really was an exciting moment for all of us. As an engineer I’ve been fascinated by turbines and compressors ever since my student days, so as far as I was concerned, MAN was the obvious choice. At MAN, flexibility is a valuable asset. As a trainee I had two years to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the organization. But the plan soon changed and I became a project manager in plant planning. It was a huge challenge, as I had very little time to acquaint myself with my new surroundings. But the new post also gave me the chance to prove myself. Today I’m responsible for planning projects at the tendering stage worth millions of euros. It’s a huge responsibility, and you can’t afford to get your estimates wrong. Moving in unknown territory has become part and parcel of my job, which is exactly what I love about it. If you’re open to new challenges, you’ll broaden your own horizons. The first Brazilian-manufactured MAN truck was due to roll off the production line just 18 months after VW Truck & Bus became MAN Latin America. It was never going to be easy: we had to manage with the same production space as for the previous VW model even though the truck had many more parts. We also had less preparation time at our disposal. Nevertheless, we knew that our first product had to be perfect – because we wanted to prove that Brazilian-made MAN trucks can offer the same premium quality as any other MAN product.

With this in mind, we’ve been working for several months on a new process optimisation system that is helping us to continuously improve.  I think it’s safe to predict that the first MAN truck manufactured in Brazil will be a resounding success. Only by making progress every day will we stay at the top. That’s why change should be the rule.
