I wanted to make an impact and see the tangible results of my work. So two years ago I left my job in consulting to join MAN Diesel, where I helped to set up a new department for organizational development. My team now optimizes different production processes at plants in Germany, Denmark and France. My team and I have achieved several improvements over the last few years, increasing productivity, reducing lead times and improving delivery performance. I live for mechanical engineering. A good reason for applying to join MAN after obtaining my doctorate. I was on my way to the interview when I saw these impressive trucks and I knew at once: this is where I want to work. From that moment on I have been passionate about MAN. I decided to take part in the 15-month trainee program, where I was introduced to a large number of departments. Moreover, I was given the freedom to delve deeper into areas that I found especially interesting. For instance, I was allowed to tinker on the trucks myself in one of our service workshops. Shortly after my time as a trainee, I led a project that played a decisive role in shaping my professional career: using comparisons with the competition, we identified the potential for improvements in our products.

I have now been responsible for this task for almost three years and I am now in charge of a department with 10 employees.

I started at MAN in 2006 as a doctoral candidate, researching big two-stroke diesel engines using visual test methods. We investigated new possibilities for improving energy efficiency. Our results then flowed into the development of new technologies. As a chemist, I was the exception amongst all the mechanical engineers. But my colleagues were very supportive: I had access to all areas, I was given all the necessary resources, and everyone at MAN was glad to help me. I was soon working independently on projects and combining them with my academic studies. Now, four years later, I have my doctorate and I'm a research engineer in an interdisciplinary team doing basic research on combustion engines. The fact that we all have different viewpoints multiplies our options.
