Expectations and Challenges

The framework for corporate responsibility

The MAN Group is pursuing a long-term corporate strategy that targets sustainable value creation. Our strategy reflects the challenges of the future and the expectations of the interest groups which are impacted by our Company’s actions: our stakeholders.

Companies today find themselves facing a wide range of requirements from different sources. If they are to be successful, they need to respond to these requirements. That makes it important for a company to know its stakeholders and be familiar with their expectations. In our view, the purpose of the stakeholder dialog in which we engage is to look into the diverse needs and ideas of our stakeholders; to reconcile the various interests and to mediate where conflicts of interest arise. The expectations of our most important stakeholders are set out in MAN’s Guiding Principles.

Customers and business partners
Along with quality, reliability and economy, our customers increasingly expect compliance with environmental and social standards along their supply chain. MAN regularly receives inquiries on this subject and self-assessment questionnaires. When it comes to climate protection, expectations in terms of CO2 reporting in particular are increasing. These requirements are covered by the Code of Conduct that MAN has formulated for its own use and for its business partners.

Employees
Our employees at MAN expect a leadership culture founded on mutual respect and trust. No less important are a cooperative spirit, open communication and ongoing support and development. As an international company, MAN employs people of different nationalities, cultures and religions in an atmosphere marked by fairness, tolerance and equal opportunities. Potential employees constitute an important stakeholder group. MAN aims to be perceived by them as a responsible employer that plays its part in fostering sustainable development.

Investors
For investors and analysts, sustainability and responsibility are playing an increasingly important role. These stakeholders expect MAN to ensure transparent reporting with clear and comparable information on the Company’s sustainability performance. Only when these data are available can they reliably assess a company’s future performance and minimize the risk in their investment decisions.

Society
Society’s expectations in terms of the transparency and sustainability of corporate activities have grown significantly. These factors also govern acceptance levels of the Company’s operations at the local and regional level. Maintaining a good reputation is central to MAN’s ability to remain successful. Neighboring residents, local authorities, the media and non-governmental organizations all want to see contributions to social development, fair conduct in the marketplace and a responsible approach to our core business.
