CR Management Systems
Commitment to values
The MAN Code of Conduct outlines standards of behavior that are binding for all our employees worldwide, serving as a tool for their daily work. Published in eleven languages, the Code is available to every employee. In 2010 MAN also worked with the International Metalworkers’ Federation to develop a Joint Declaration on Human Rights and Working Conditions in the MAN Group. This framework agreement will be applied around the world and lay further groundwork for the Company's responsible business practices. These values will be integrated into different management systems in a variety of ways.
Management systems
Corporate governance and compliance
- MAN’s corporate governance is based on a clearly defined management concept. The Industrial Governance System regulates the distribution of tasks and responsibilities between the MAN Group’s headquarters and the divisions. Operational decisions are made independently by the respective subgroups. The MAN Group’s headquarters is responsible for setting corporate strategy, organizational structures and HR strategy as well as filling management positions throughout the Group and managing performance.
- A compliance system, developed by MAN and applied systematically since the beginning of 2010, ensures continuing adherence to the Code of Conduct and related regulations. It is aimed at combating corruption as well as preventing violations in the areas of antitrust law and data protection (‘prevent’), identifying breaches early (‘detect’) and reacting quickly, effectively and consistently (‘respond’).
Supplier management
- Our new purchasing and procurement policy defines standards for our suppliers which apply throughout the Group. MAN requires suppliers to comply with applicable labor, environmental protection and occupational safety laws and regulations and to work to become stronger in these areas. We expect continuous improvement in environmental performance, and encourage suppliers to set up and develop an environmental management system if at all possible (e.g. in accordance with ISO 14001 or EMAS). In addition, our suppliers are expected to respect the principles of the UN Global Compact.
Environmental and occupational safety management
- The MAN Group has had an integrated management system since 2003. It includes environmental management as well as occupational safety, fire safety, hazard abatement, quality management and information security. We assess the use of hazardous substances in the workplace and work-related risks to employees, and conduct regular internal safety, environmental and health audits. The effectiveness of the management system at all production sites is regularly monitored by means of internal audits and external certification. Our goal is to have all facilities certified under the ISO 9000 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental protection) and OHSAS 18001 (health and occupational safety) standards by 2015. In addition, MAN’s vocational training and continuing professional development programs include aspects of environmental protection and safety.
Human resources management
- Leadership at MAN means accepting responsibility for people. The four characteristics of the MAN leadership culture – competence, transparency, commitment and behavior – are areas in which a good manager leads by example.
- MAN promotes the professional development of all employees through job rotation, individual development plans and the MAN Executive Academy programs. Our Campus Initiative enables the Company to forge early links with students. As a global Group, MAN not only employs people of many different nationalities, but people of different cultures, religions and ways of life. This diversity of perspectives and talents is a great source of creative potential. In 2010 MAN launched an employer branding project to position ourselves as an attractive employer. The campaign is aimed at recruiting top talents and increasing diversity within the Company.
